Among Thieves

New Allies

After making their exit from the White Dragon safely, the adventurers battled their way through more goblins before taking respite in a quiet corner of the dungeon.
Suddenly, something gets the Bear growling low in its throat, as it faces an unopened door.
Aruk readies himself as Zykos scurries to perch on a statue in the shadows.
The door opens slowly to reveal an enormous grey Dragonborn. He wears old scale armour with a tattered crimson cloak. At his side he wears a short sword, and carries an enormous club with iron bands reinforcing it.
After the adventurers square off, he introduces himself as Ikeda Sentoryu, a travelling warlord.
Before the conversation can go much further, a squawk of alarm from a number of goblins signals the ambush.
Ikeda sets about him with ease, incinerating goblins and tearing through them, whilst guiding the others expertly.
The fight does not last long.
The Dragonborn decides to join the party and they continue through the dungeon, battling arcane constructs in a deviously designed puzzle room, and human guards of the necromancer.
One of the guards, rather than be skewered, reveals itself to be a Changeling by the name of Jixin. She offers information on the mage, and some valuables in exchange for her life. Soon after she makes a hasty retreat.
The party finally confront the wizard and his undead servants, destroying them and taking the chest back to Traevus for their reward.
With that, Aruk bids farewell to the party and heads his own way with Bear. As he walks north into the frozen wastes, Zykos and Ikeda make their way to Fallcrest in search of women and a decent gambling den…

The Twisting Halls

The party follow Aruk’s tracking to the mouth of a cave, hidden behind bushes.
Inside, they are met with more Goblins, standing guard. These ones are tougher than the grunts that attacked the wagon, a fact that’s not helped by the presence of a shaman and a guard drake.
Bear takes on the guard drake and the two quickly descend into a roiling flurry of teeth and claws.
Zykos and Aruk take on the other two guards, dispatching them with some difficulty. Bear picks himself up, bloodied, and stands over the corpse of the drake.
As the shaman realizes that the fight is lost, his flees with a long squawk.

The party continue deeper into the dungeon, and come across a small band of Kobolds. Zykos takes point and dispatches the first few without difficulty. Their leader tries to reason with the party, but Bear and Aruk finish off any survivors before continuing.

The next room houses a young White Dragon. The beast has turned the room into its own sub-zero treasure trove, and sits atop it, looking expectantly at the adventurers.
Zykos, being the charming Drow he is, decides to do the talking.
It doesn’t take long to realize that this Dragon is extremely sensitive and is looking for the least excuse to attack.
“Speaking of help. how did you get in here without my followers finding you first?”
The party looks at each other sheepishly and Zykos changes the subject.
The Dragon tells the party that “it’s lair” was once a temple built by Minotaurs. Of late though, a Human wizard has taken up residence deeper in the temple, and has attracted all sorts – Goblins, Drakes, even raising some undead for his own needs. The dragon might allow to party to live if they could…rectify the situation.
The adventurers quickly agree and leave, breathing a collective sigh of relief.

The Story So Far...

A merchant’s wagon, carrying two hitch-hikers is slowly making its way to Fallcrest, when it is suddenly attacked by a band of Goblins. The merchant, a Dwarf by the name of Traevus, takes cover under the wagon as the two travelers react in their own ways.
One is a hulking Half-Orc, who jumps down from the wagon with a thud, brandishing a club that seems to be a year’s growth from being a tree trunk. A huge bear shimmers into existence near him, and the pair begin setting about them, one pounding unlucky Goblins into paste, the other tearing their throats out.
The other traveller, a Drow, looks around frustratedly, and reaches under his traveling cloak. All of a sudden, a darkness seems to descend on the wagon, one that moves slowly around the skirmish. Where a Goblin passes through this cloud, what’s left behind is a corpse with incisions of surgical precision, pierced eyeballs, slit throats, or puncture wounds at the temples, or hearts.
It doesn’t take long before the Goblins realize that they’ve attacked the wrong wagon, and they break and flee.
The pair check on the Dwarf and make their introductions. The Half-Orc’s name is Aruk. The bear’s name is Bear. Obviously.
The Drow bows with a flourish and introduces himself as Zykos Tzul.
The Dwarf is grateful for the help, but when he realizes the Goblins have made off with a particular chest, a stream of swear words follows that sends flocks of birds streaming from nearby trees, and causes to bear to look slightly embarrassed.
Traevus offers to pay handsomely if the trio can recover his chest. No strings attached, no questions asked.
After some searching of Goblin bodies, and Bear having a light snack, Aruk finally picks up a trail heading Southwest, into the Moon Hills.
The party sets off…
